THANK YOU
It wasn't all that long ago -- November 14, actually -- when I first asked the community to join me at Davis's Southern Pacific Depot where I announced my candidacy for the Davis City Council. It was an honor to have so many friends, neighbors, and interested Davis folks join me that Saturday.  Since then, I have been humbled by the number of people who have supported me, donated to the campaign, displayed lawn signs and most importantly, volunteered. A tremendous number of people have contributed time and energy walking precincts, setting up and maintaining a table at the farmers market, distributing lawn signs, handling communications, coordinating and hosting events, and doing so much more. And it's once again my honor, this time on Election Night with family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and so many others present to say “Thank you” for all your work.  A special “Thank you” to my wife Janet and daughters Lillian and Charlotte for their extraordinary patience and never-ending support.  And “Thank you” to the people of Davis who came out, listened, questioned, and ultimately gave me your trust and your vote and elected me to the Davis City Council.  Wow!
My election came after a campaign that was thoughtful, issue-driven, and simply one great experience.  The campaign made me a better candidate and person because of the many and good people I got to know, because of the diverse aspects of life in Davis that I was privileged to experience, and because of the first-hand knowledge I gained by reaching out across Davis and into the many special neighborhoods that make up our community.  The insight I gained and the friendships I made these past seven months reinforced all that I knew was good about Davis. This deeper understanding of our community will help me better serve the people of Davis.
It was a privilege for me to get to know and compete with all five candidates. I know that we were each motivated by and united in one simple thought -- to make this place we call home an even better place.  To each of them, and especially to Rochelle Swanson who will join me on the Council, I pledge to serve in the same manner in which we all campaigned -- with respect and openness. Respect for the City of Davis and for the people who work to make Davis a better place. And respect for my colleagues on the Council and for the people who come before us.

For those of you with me at Davis's Southern Pacific Depot that first Saturday, you may remember my campaign promise was to make this fun and memorable.  Well, I had a blast! I'll remember this campaign and the people I met forever, and I certainly hope you had a fun and memorable time as well.  That same Saturday I asked you to let me know what you think, and boy, did you ever. Tonight, as an elected member of the Davis City Council, I ask you to please continue to let me know what you think, and I promise I will continue to listen. I can’t wait to serve.

Thank you to each and every one of you.
